UNSYNCABLES SUCCESSFUL AT WORLD MASTERS 2006

The Unsyncables won a total of 6 gold medal events in the 2006 World Masters Championships held at August 13-17, 2006 in Stanford's fantastic Avery Aquatic Center. The competition brought more than 300 competitors from 11 nations for the events. The Unsyncables six gold included 3 solos: 40-49, 70-79, and 80-89, 70-79 duet, 35-49 trio and 65 & over team.

Three teams from the Unsyncables participated: the 65 & overs who won the gold, the 50-64 team placed 5th and the 20-34 team took 12th. Almost every team in the two younger age groups (20-34 and 35-49) were swimming with the full compliment of 8 swimmers with Europeans dominating the 20-34 age group where the US national champions placed 6th. .

One of the highlights of the meet was our own Miriam (80-89 solo) who brought down the house with huge audience appreciation in her performance to "Little Old Lady from Pasadena,"  her technical routine and continued to wow the crowd with her interpretation of "Memories" for her free routine. Miriam overcame her competitors with a strong showing of swimming fluidity, good vertical figures and great artistic interpretation. Our own "Little Old Lady (who is actually) from Pasadena" is going strong at age 86 and shows that synchro is a sport for all ages.

Lizzie was the top gold medal winner for the Unsyncables, winning 3 events: solo and duet (with Penny DeMeules) in 70-79 and 65 & over team. Karen won two gold medals, 40-49 solo, and with partners Kristen Ash and Angela Sacchetto, also won the 35-49 trio.
