| The Southern California Unsyncables is a not-for-profit organization. Membership is open to adults 20 and older. Current members, ages 20 to 90, enjoy keeping fit swimming to music, creating routines for competitions and watershows, and working together with others who share their love of the sport. The main prerequisite for synchro is good swimming ability. Most of our younger swimmers participated in synchro before while most of those 50 and older learned the sport as adults. Some had never tried the sport before joining Masters. Swimmers who competed in Synchro when young have brought a wealth of experience from their previous clubs: Santa Clara Aquamaids, Walnut Creek Aquanuts, Meraquas of Irvine, Lakewood Synchronettes, Riverside Aquettes, Los Angeles Synchro, The Ohio State University, University of Arizona, University of Michigan, University of Iowa, the Dayton Aquanymphs, San Francisco Merionettes, Cypress Swim Club, Northern Virginia Nereids, Ottawa Neptunettes, Toronto Leaside Club, Tucson Sun Rays, Menomanee Falls (WI) Dolphinettes, Troy (NY) Sculpins, Richland (PA) Club, Reno Aquatic Club and the Los Angeles Synchro Swans. Most had competed in U.S. Synchronized Swimming Championships. (see Meet the Swimmers). The Unsyncables practice and compete in age unit teams, 20-34, 35-49, 50-65 and with a development team ages 32-65. Ages are averaged to determine the competitive category and swimmers compete on teams of 6-8 members. New members begin by learning basic sculling, kicking and figure skills while swimming to music as a team alternate. They become competitive team members when their skills and age match one of the teams. All members participate in watershow routines when appropriate. More experienced swimmers are placed with an appropriate skill level team and also compete in solo, duet and trio routines. Workouts together are held just once a week, on Sundays. However, in order to maintain fitness levels, members are asked to practice 2 or more times a week in pools closer to their homes. Interested swimmers are welcome to visit a workout at La Mirada's 'Splash', Regional Aquatics Center, 13806 La Mirada Blvd, La Mirada. |
