Meet the 60s
Penny won two gold medals at the 2006 masters world championships, with Lizzi in 70-79 duet and as part of the 65 & over team. She has won medals in 6 masters world championships since 1992, including gold in team in 1996 and 2000. She has missed only one masters nationals, the year she was recovering from breast cancer surgery. A member of the Unsyncables since 1991, she said, "I began Masters because it is much more fun to swim than coach or judge." (she is a national judge condiering  Emeritus status). Penny was the 2002 recipient of the May McEwan Memorial award for significant achievements in Masters synchronized swimming for her long career in the sport as a masters and youth competitor, coach, judge, committee member, and all around hard worker on whatever needs to be done. When young, she competed with the Dayton Synchronettes and Ohio State University. She has helped coach Dayton, the San Jose Rhythmettes and the San Francisco Merionettes.
Elaine has loved swimming since her teenage years when she had the opportunity to participate in a swimming performance for a Russian education delegation at her high school in Texas in 1962. Since that time, she has devoted her time to her chosen profession of pediatric speech pathology and raising her children with her husband. She participated in her first Nationals in Arizona in 2001 and placed second with her teammates in the team competition ... an honor which she never believed possible, but treasures. Palo Alto in 2006 was her first World Championships and she was delighted to help earn the gold medal in 65 & over team. Last year, she took 4th place with the 'Synchro-Nuts' team in 50-59 team. With three grown children, and tremendously enthusiastic about everything she undertakes, she is a definite asset to the team..
Kathy joined the Unsyncables in 1996 when friend Penny sent an invitation. She loves to swim, so joined the group. She swims now with old and new friends (Molly was a teammate with the Aquettes) Like Molly, she too won a Junior National team title with the Aquettes. She has competed in both National and World competitions. In the 2000 Worlds in Munich, she won 4 events: 50-59 technical routine, 40-49 duet, 50-59 trio and 50-64 team. She has many memories of swimming - taking a trip on the 'Maid of the Mist' at Niagara Falls in 32 degree weather, swimming in 65 degree water for a show at Hearst Castle and snow catching everyone by surprise last year in Las Vegas.  She is an elementary school teacher during the week, but spends her weekends focused on swimming and learning routines and techniques.  She credits her husband and children for giving her the time to pursue her passion and while continuing to spend family time with them.
Molly retired from her full-time teaching career in 2007 and once again has returned to masters synchro. She swam in 1998, returned in 2001 and 2002 and won gold medals as part of the winning 40-49 team. She returned in 2006 and has been to all National meets since, winning silver in the 50-59 GM team last year in Las Vegas.   Molly was a synchro swimmer when young with the Riverside Aquettes (under coach Dawn Bean)  A highlight of those years was winning the Junior National Team title in 1965. She was also a placewinner in senior national teams during the mid 60s. She became interested in swimming again when her daughters (now water polo players) were swimming with the Meraquas of Irvine. Molly completed her MS degree in Art and English and was named Tustin's 'Teacher of the Year' in 1996. Her hobby is sewing and she makes many of our swim suit costumes, as well as for other teams. She even brought her sewing machine to worlds in 2006 and was busy (in non-practice times) embroidering individual names and our team logo on our new warmups.
Kathy C. began synchro in 2006. She did some water ballet in high school and college, but says that synchro is much more challenging.  She was an avid tennis player both as a competitor and coach for many years while her two children were growing up.  She found the Unsyncables while lap swimming and has been an enthusiastic member since.  Her first competition was the World Championships in 2006 where she was excited to take home a gold medal in 65 & over team. Then she was thrilled to take home another gold from the Nationals that year. She took 4th with the 'Synchro-Nuts' last year at Nationals in 50-59 team. Kathy says, "Synchro has been a joy both from the great exercise and challenge of a new sport and, just as important, the wonderful new friendships and camaraderie of the group."
Jill has had health issues the past few years that have limited her participation in Nationals.  She did compete in 2008 on the 50-59 Grandmaster team that finished 2nd in Nationals.  A member of the Unsyncables since 1992, she won gold medals in three world championships, 1992 in Indianapolis, 1996 in England and in  Munich, 2000. When young, Jill swam for the Long Beach Synchronettes and later helped coach that team. She and her husband both retired now, enjoy spending time with the grandchildren.
