Kristen, Angela and Karen won the 35-49 trio event in the 2006 World Masters. Karen is a former USA National team member and Kristin was a ranked gymnast that trained under Bela Karolyi. All are current coaches with the Los Angeles Synchro Club.
The 65+ team was totally "in synch" to win the team title. Now the reigning champions in their age group, they performed a crowd pleasing "Give My Regards to Broadway" routine.
Miriam was the star of the meet when she performed her "Little Old Lady from Pasadena" tech routine to crowd clapping approval. . The crowd loved her and her free routine "Memories" will bring back memories as she triumphed over very stiff competition to win the 80-89 solo.
The 50-64 team competed against a juggernaut Redwood Empire team that included at least 3 former National Champions. They presented themelves very well, finishing in 5th place.
New member Lori taught herself to swim from articles on the internet just two years ago. She was ecstatic to perform in her first World Masters. While the higher places were taken by those with more experience and skill, Lori showed there is a place for any enthusiast. She plans to improve her placing by working hard on her skills. We know she will because of her drive!!!
Lizzi and Penny were winners in the 70-79 duet and Lizzi also won the 70-79 solo. These two have won multiple titles in the U.S. in the Worlds over the last 15 years. "Diamonds (and Medals and Trophies) are (indeed) a Girl's Best Friend."
Lindsay, "Collegiate Swimmer of the Year" in 2002 at the University of Iowa, was a finalist in the very tough 20-29 age group.
Michelle and Lindsay, both successful collegiate athletes, now enjoy the Masters program. They took 5th out of 23 in an extremely competitive and difficult event, the 20-29 duet.
The 20-34 team faced two major challenges, losing one team member only a few weeks before the event and Michelle getting kicked in the nose right before the final swim. Despite the challenges (luckily Michelle was cleared to swim by the med staff), the 20s team successfully completed their "Superheroes" team.
Ivy, another new member who previously swam for the Meraquas of Irvine, did well in her first world meet, competing in solo and team in the youngest age division..
